CORALLIUM 3.0 desk lamp ( flattened )

The aim is to commemorate the massive decline of coral reefs and their demise in this century and the human effort to
reverse this process through technology. A table lamp inspired by the beauty of coral reefs.
Biomimicry design style imitates nature to solve complex problems through innovation and design.
Each artificial reef’s ceramic component was 3D printed with a custom design and then fitted with coral fragments that developers hope will grow across the entire structure. Coral reefs are one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on earth. Coral reefs are so threatened by our greenhouse gas emissions, pollution and overfishing that scientists agree they may cease to exist by the end of this century. Ntopology software is modelling software that can mimic the shape of coral reefs and offers a lot of variations.
3D printing and this software were used to design the table lamp. The simplified shape is based on 3d printed coral reefs. Emphasis is placed on mirroring the light on the shade surfaces. Ceramic Resin is a silica-filled photopolymer. The cooking would burn all the photopolymer away and thus obtain a completely ceramic part that can be varnished.
Phosphor rings are located near the lightbulb of this lamp. In the dark, phosphor glow rings will remain glowing for five hours when switched off.
